Welcome to Our School!

A welcome video and guided tour of Barnes Elementary in Beaverton, Oregon by the 3^rd grade dual immersion class.

Context:

This technology project was used as a means of assessment at the accumulation of a unit on maps for third graders.

Purpose:

The purpose of this project was to provide an opportunity for students to experience higher-level thinking, work with technology and provide a welcome video for new students.

Description:

Students were divided into six groups based on literacy, behavioral, language and content knowledge abilities. The goal was to make the groups a mixture of ability levels.

Students worked with their groups to complete three tasks. First, each student created a map of their area (cafeteria, office and library, bathrooms, kinder and first grade classrooms, fourth grade classrooms and music room, gym and play group and the portables). Second, students worked with group members to write a script that described the location. Third, students video taped a tour of their area. (All maps, scripts, filming and directing were completed by students.)
