Title: Video Review
Context: At the end of the unit my students will decide as a class on a Holocaust topic that they are passionate about. They may choose a topic such as concentration camps, the survivors or places involved. As a class the will compose a video using speech, text, pictures and resources from books or the Internet.
Objectives: Students will show their learned knowledge by compiling a video and sharing facts and information.
Benchmarks: Demonstrate
proficiency in the use of technological tools and devices
Select and use technology to enhance learning and problem
solving.
Design, prepare, and present
unique works using technology to communicate information and ideas.
Preparation: To prepare for the lesson I will need to make sure that I have a digital video camera available for my students to film the project. I will provide books, posters, helpful websites and other resources for the students to include in their presentation.
Lesson Introduction: (5 min) What would you like to focus on? What was the most intriguing part of the unit? What types of things do you want to include in the video?
Lesson Activities: (35 min)
The students will decided upon the story line that the movie will take. (They decided to reenact pieces that they learned about from the unit. They start out with the Jews leaving the country, showing their passports in hope of escaping. The Jews run away into hiding but are eventually found. They showed soldiers marching into a town when they find the people in hiding. They then show them marching into a concentration camp and eventually surviving until liberation.)
What do we want to show?
How do we get there?
How will everyone participate?
What is your role?
What is our main goal?
We will also need to decide on a time guideline so the students will know if theyÕre editing down to 5-15 minutes.
The students will then use computers to access websites, pictures or text along with books and pieces of work that they have completed throughout the unit in order to create the video. They will have to decide who will be in charge of the filming and production pieces as well. Each student will take part in the activity. Since there are 15 students that should be present, we will assign jobs such as research, design, speaking, filming and editing.
After the filming and editing is complete we will watch the finished product as a class.
